Executive Director
Job Summary:
The Executive Director of the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce serves as the chief executive officer, overseeing the strategic direction, operational effectiveness, and overall success of the 501(c) (6) organization. The Executive Director will work closely with a wide range of constituencies in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors to build support and coalitions consistent with the Chamber’s overall vision, mission, current goals and priorities. The Executive Director directly reports to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors who is responsible for advising the Board of policy, programs, and other key initiatives. This individual will lead, manage, and inspire staff to support and promote economic development of the region, advocate for businesses, and provide essential services to members and the business community.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead the Chamber in the development and execution of its mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish long-term goals and ensure proper governance.
- Provide strategic direction and innovative ideas to address the needs of local businesses and the community.
- Foster an environment of growth, collaboration, and open communication with staff, members, and stakeholders.
Community and Government Relations:
- Serve as the Chamber’s key spokesperson, advocating on behalf of the business community with government officials, media, and other external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and state organizations, business leaders, and government agencies.
- Lead initiatives that promote and advance economic development within the community.
- Represent the Chamber at key events and forums, including local, regional, and national conferences.
Membership Development and Services:
- Identify, recruit, and retain members, ensuring that services are aligned with members’ needs and goals.
- Develop programs and initiatives that add value to members and enhance their business success.
- Regularly engage with members through events, communications, and other outreach efforts to ensure high levels of satisfaction.
Financial Management:
- Oversee the Chamber’s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and fundraising.
- Manage day-to-day operations within approved budgets and resources, ensuring financial sustainability.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for additional funding, grants, and sponsorships.
- Monitor and report on financial performance to the Board of Directors regularly.
Staff Management:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to Chamber staff.
- Ensure that staff resources are effectively utilized to meet the Chamber’s goals.
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, and retention of key staff.
- Foster a positive and productive work culture based on collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Program and Event Planning and Management:
- Plan and execute key Chamber events such as networking opportunities, luncheons, ribbon-cutting ceremonies and ground breakings, and the annual awards dinner.
- Manage and strengthen programs that support the Chamber’s mission and services such as Leadership Thomas, iLead Youth Leadership, and Project Workforce.
- Oversee the logistics and promotion of programs and events to ensure they are well-attended and impactful.
Business Community Development:
- Work closely with other economic development organizations, researching needs, developing appropriate content, and linking businesses to resources to spur innovation and smart growth.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Relations, or related field (master’s preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role, preferably within a Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit, or similar business advocacy organization.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, management, and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to think strategically and manage complex projects and events.
- Experience in financial management and budget oversight.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and state government, as well as economic development initiatives.
Preferred:
- Experience working in or with a membership-based organization.
- Experience in fundraising and sponsorship development.
- Strong knowledge of community engagement and outreach strategies.
- Full time resident of Thomasville - Thomas County.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel locally and regionally for meetings, events, and networking.
- Ability to work evenings or weekends for special events as required.
- Ability to work alongside staff to set up and break down programs and events.
